Equestrian

Timber Ridge is proud to provide an extensive equestrian provide that provides opportunities for riders of all levels. Our program is headed by Angela Rary, a certified riding instructor through the Certified Horsemanship Association.

Angela started out at Camp Green Briar back in 2001  where she ran the horseback riding program for 3 years. In 2010 she returned to Timber Ridge as the Horseback Riding Director, and has stayed with Timber Ridge ever since.Angela has a B.S. in Equestrian Studies and a M.A. in Education.

Riding

Our riding program at Timber Ridge is one of the most popular activities at camp. Riding of all ages and experience levels are welcomed to participate and learn. As campers progress in skill, they may take the appropriate skills test that allows them to advance to the next level. Both Western and English styles are taught. Beginners will start with guided walks around camp grounds, while more experienced groups will trail ride and venture further out.

When we say that everyone is encouraged to participate in the equestrian program, we mean everyone. It is for this reason that there are no additional fees to participate. We want children who have never been on a horse to give it a shot, and we want those who are experienced to not feel pressured to focus solely on horses.

Horsemasters

Another equestrian program offered at Timber Ridge is "Horsemasters". This program is intended to introduce campers to the areas of equine health, management, maintenance, grooming, and nutrition.

Participants in this program gain the opportunity to get hands on experience with our horses in small classes led by our Equestrian Director.

Horsemasters may be taken concurrently with riding, however it is not a requirement.
